This outfit comes with two sought-after lenses that would be a deluxe starting point for anyone's first SLR: the Canon FD 50mm f1.4 S.S.C. and an FD 35mm f2.8 S.C. 

A 50mm prime lens (on a 35mm camera) is the photographer's everyday go-to that roughly mimics the angle of view of typical human vision.  The 1.4 maximum aperture gets you more light in a dark setting than a 1.8 or f2 option (both also common).  A 35mm lens (on a 35mm camera) functions as a gentle wide-angle often popular for landscape or street photography.
